The first seminar of the"Syncretic Transcodings" series will gather Montreal researchers-creators, artists and student around a group of four international researchers and four Montreal researchers, for a 3-days meeting meant to trigger the discussion about the impact of cultural values on the evolution of relations between art, science and technology. Representatives of organizations throughout Quebec media arts scene will also be present.

Aimed at all the participants involved in the world of the media arts (independent artists, organizations, curators, academics, students), the event will take place between May 4th, 5th and 7th, 2010 at the UQAM Coeur des Sciences, in a room called " La Chaufferie " located within the largest diffusion HexagramCIAM space in our University at "Le Cœur des Sciences de l'UQAM". The main objectives of the seminar will be to evaluate and explore, through each participant's practice and experience, how the link between evolution of syncretic media art practices and sociocultural values can trigger new transdisciplinary and transcultural researchcreation practices.

The meetings between the participants will take three forms :

A gathering wich will take place at the end of the day on May 5th we will define future collaboration and partnership possibilities, and propose directions for further actions.

Hexagram and the CIAM constitute together one of the largest research-creation university center in the world, with a membership of over 80 researchers, directing more than 250 master and Ph.D. students. Four Montreal Universities (UQAM, Concordia, University of Montreal, McGill) are represented among their members.

The main language of the seminar will be English. Certain activities will be coordinated with the Elektra festival, which is held at the same period.
